winnie the poohThe beloved bear, Winnie the Pooh, has got to be one of those characters that everyone around the world recognizes. Why is this clumsy and cute bear so popular? Why is he one of the “favorites”?

It is funny that this famous character is known to kids today as that loveable bear from that movie. Most adults (over 40) remember him from the books by Milne, rather than the Disney movies. How did Winnie the Pooh get his start?

Winnie The Pooh – The Beginning

Back at the start of WWI (World War 1), Canadian troops made a stop in White River, Ontario (Canada) on their way Europe. Harry Colebourn, a Lieutenant, purchased a female bear cub. He named the black bear cub Winnipeg. Later on their shortened the cubs name to Winnie.

The little bear became the mascot of the Canadian troops. Later on the bear ended up in the London Zoo. Winnie stayed at the zoo until 1934, and many people came and saw her. One of the people that visited was A.A. Milne, and his son. His sons name was Christopher Robin.

Later on Christopher gave his toy bear at home a name. The name was Winnie the Pooh. His father, A.A. Milne wrote a book featuring Winnie the Pooh, as well as other toys that Christopher named. You will recognize some of these names… Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, and Kanga. Sound familiar?

Winnie The Pooh The Book

Milne got his Winnie the Pooh book published in 1926, and went on to publish a few more books in 27 as well as 28. His books were a hit with kids as well as adults. (Think JK Rowling popularity..) Later on Walt Disney took an interest in the character. Walt’s daughters loved the book about Winnie the Pooh and inspired their dad to make a movie.

One of the best collectibles is Tinkerbell. She is very well known, and kids love her. She got her start in the Peter Pan story by JM Barrie. JM was an amazing writer, and is best known for his work on the Peter Pan novel. She is known for her pixie dust, and has starred in several Disney movies since.

Tinkerbell Was Not Very Nice In The Peter Pan Movie!

tinkerbellMany think that Tink or Tinkerbell was a nice little fairy if they watched the current movies based upon her. But, in the Peter Pan book, she attempted to get Wendy killed by the Lost Boys. Not so nice Tinkerbell!

If you go to Disneyland, you can visit Tinkerbell in Pixie Hollow. In the new Disney Movies about her, she is fun and exciting. In the Peter Pan movie, Disney made her mute, as she did not speak.

Little Kids Love Tinkerbell

Little kids love and adore her. Tink is quickly becoming one of the most famous Disney characters. One of the reasons children love her is because she can fly and is a classic character. You can get a Disney Snow Globe that includes her.

Tinkerbell Figurines

Another popular item is a figurine based upon her. They are very popular with the kids, as it is a miniature Tink that they can play with or set on their book shelf.  If you look around, you will see Tink on all kids of household items, from t-shirts to lunch boxes. Many kids in school will have Tink on their notebooks.

If you have a youngster that loves Tinkerbell, you should think about getting them a snow dome with Tink inside. It makes a great gift for any occasion!

Can you believe that Mickey Mouse has been around for 80 plus years? Even though he is a old mouse, he is loved by many. Over the years, he has had a few make overs. He is a little stubborn, and kept the same dud’s. If he had a style it would be called “classically cool”.

What is Mickey Mouse up to these days?

Lately he has not been doing much work. No recent movies, but he has been doing lots of TV. His show, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is a hit with the kids. I know my daughter loves the show. But, he is alive and kicking at Disneyland. Disney has done a great job of keeping him the focal point at the theme park. Disney recently (a few years back) tossed Mickey Mouse a great big birthday party.

What does Oswald the Lucky Rabbit have to do with Mickey Mouse?

A long time ago, the Disney franchise was a part of Universal Pictures. It was known as Disney Brothers Studio, and good old Walt Disney came up with a character. He was called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This was in 1927, and he was an instant hit. Then in 1928, after Oswald had a series of hits on his big round hands, Walt tried to cut a new contract. Universal back stabbed Walt and hired his workers. Then tried to keep Walt on, only if he would take a pay cut. Walt told them to shine it and moved on.

In defeat, Walt moved on and started work on something new. In his creative sessions, a new character was born. This character, known as Mortimer, was a mouse. The funny thing was, the name Mortimer did not last long. The name Mickey Mouse did.

In the beginning, Mickey Mouse’s original shorts were not very good. Then a new film was made with Mickey. This one was called Steamboat Willy. Well, Walt and Mickey Mouse had a hit on their hands.

One thing that always makes the kiddies smile, is a snow globe. If you have ever watched a child stare at them while the snow swirls around in the globe, you would know what I am talking about. They make great gifts all year round, like birthdays, holidays, or any other type of special event. They truly are a gift that fits any occasion!

Snow domes make great gifts for Christmas. There are a lot of them that are themed with this season. Many parents want to gift their small child a special gift for their 1st Christmas. A Disney Snow Globe fits this very well. You can save it for your child, so they can keep it after they get bigger. They will always remember you and their 1st Christmas forever.

If you are looking for a special gift for a Birthday, a snow globe is perfect. Children love birthdays and birthday parties. They love to get toys and special gifts on their special day. A snow globe is that perfect item that they will be able to keep for a long time and remember their special day that you gave them.

There are a wide range of snow globes to pick from. The brand I like are the Snow Domes made by Disney. You can get them with your favorite characters on them. Like a Disney Princess, Mikey Mouse, Pluto, Winnie The Pooh, Tinkerbell, and other characters from Disney Movies. Some of the special snow domes feature all of the characters on a Multi-Character scene. Kids really like these snow domes, and that is why they are so popular.

If you do not want a Disney Snow Globe, you can get them featuring anything. They come in all shapes and sizes, and feature many popular characters from kids movies and TV shows. There is not shortage of types of snow domes on the market.

It is that time of year again. Christmas is right around the corner. If you have not finished getting your loved ones a Christmas gift, you should think about getting them a Christmas Snow Globe. They come in all shapes and sizes and there is a wide range in the prices. You can find them for under $20, and some of the collectible snow globes are over $100. With that range in pricing, you can spend as much as you want on your gift.

You can find a snow globe featuring Mickey Mouse and Santa. This one will appeal to children and adults. Mickey Mouse is one of those “classic” characters. You can not go wrong with any Mickey Mouse product. Who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse?

One of my favorite Christmas Snow Globes is this one by the Bradford Exchange. It has multiple characters in it. Bambi, Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, Pluto, and Thumper. If you want to get one that is beautiful and covers multiple characters, this one is for you.

Then there is one that plays “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. It has Mickey Mouse riding on a rocking horse. This one is made by Disney, and you can check it out here: We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

Mickey Mouse is the man!  Ok, not quite the “man” but he is quite the mouse. He is the most famous mouse on the planet. One of Disney’s main logo’s is a silhouette of Mickey Mouse’s head. That symbol is on most of the merchandise and is featured on many of the Disney Snow Globes that are for sale.

Mickey Mouse History

This is where it gets a little fuzzy. Most of the main players, that created Mickey Mouse are not alive. But, many say the the big man, Walt Disney, was the one to come up with the concept. We do know that the voice and persona for Mickey Mouse is credited to Walt Disney. The only area in dispute is the actual cartoon of him.

Steamboat Willie hit the big screen in November of 1928. This short film staring Mickey Mouse was a instant hit. The cartoon’s success lied in moving music as well as sound effects that made the audience laugh. Then in 1929, the cartoon Karnival Kid, had Mickey Mouse speaking. Finally in 1935 Mickey Mouse was redesigned into a familiar shape that we all recognize today.

Mickey Mouse got his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 1978. This was his 50th anniversary, and it was the first star to be issued to a cartoon character. Almost 100 years later, Mickey Mouse is as popular as ever. Disney has updated his show on their network, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is very popular.

Mickey Mouse As A Gift

Mickey Mouse makes a great gift. You can get him on as a character on a Disney Snow Globe, a T-Shirt, or any other type of apparel or toy. He appeals to people of all ages and cultures. If you have a loved one that needs a gift, Mickey Mouse is a great choice of character to get.
